From Scraps to Soil: Our Backyard Composting Journey
In 2018, our family embarked on a mission to turn kitchen scraps into garden gold. Armed with upcycled wooden pallets, we built not one, but two stationary composters in our backyard. On one side, we tossed in coffee grounds, eggshells, fruit peels, grass clippings, and vegetable trimmings. The other side remained untouched, allowing nature’s magic to transform our waste into nutrient-rich soil. Every few weeks, I’d don my gardening gloves and give the compost a gentle turn, ensuring proper aeration and mixing.
But what if you’re not ready to build your own compost bin? Fear not! Join us for our upcoming Composting Educational Session on July 17th. Learn the ins and outs of composting, snag a free tabletop compost bin, and have the option to become a Composting Champion for our town. As a Composting Champion, you would offer Town of Sykesville neighbors the option to drop off their table-top composter contents at your backyard composter. This is a fantastic way to build community involvement and support sustainable practices.
