Iredell Psychiatry Welcomes Maggie Taylor, LCSW
Maggie Taylor, LCSW, has joined Dr. Suja Raju at Iredell Psychiatry — Iredell Health System’s outpatient psychiatric services office.
Taylor earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at UNC Chapel Hill, then went on to earn her Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago with a specific focus on direct practice and mental health. Her work at Arkansas Children’s Hospital has been recognized with awards for excellence, compassion, and teamwork. She has 14 years of experience in social work, seven of which have been in medical social work.
“I believe connection and vulnerability take courage,” said Taylor. “Life is hard. Through the power of sharing your story with myself as a passenger in your journey, we can make life feel less like you are losing the battle and more like you are the help in your own story.”
Taylor chose Iredell Health System because of its dedication to the community.
“I was drawn to the fact that Iredell is a nonprofit organization. It seems as though the health system takes an earnest and heartfelt approach to their patients and families. They are more than just a number and a statistic — they are human,” she said.
Taylor’s approach is eclectic, combining various theoretical perspectives and evidence-based practices to provide individualized care tailored to the specific needs of her clients. Her clinical approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment- Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Focused Therapy. She also offers LGBTQIA+ affirming and body-positive care.
“I am passionate about empowering and collaborating with my clients to build their most fulfilling life through increasing insight and mindful awareness into their emotional wounds and lived experience, to grow self-love and acceptance, and build relationships that are healthy and affirming,” she said.
She understands the impact of self-action in order to experience change.
“I believe that we are all equipped with an inner guidance system that pushes us to grow anytime we are out of alignment with our highest selves. Oftentimes, this guidance comes in the form of pain or emotional discomfort. Many of us identify this pain as depression or anxiety symptoms, feelings of inadequacy, low self-esteem, grief, anger, fear, or hopelessness. The ways in which we respond to our pain has tremendous implications for future healing and overall quality of life. Action is necessary in order to create change.”
In her free time, Taylor enjoys cooking, hiking, running, and serving those in her community who face housing and food insecurity. Her cat, Jason, is her pride and joy. To schedule an appointment with Taylor, contact Iredell Psychiatry.
