Iredell Health System Welcomes New Assistant Vice President of Human Resources
Iredell Health System is pleased to welcome Melanie Sleime, MBA, SHRM-SCP, as the new Assistant Vice President of Human Resources.
Sleime received her undergraduate degree in management and earned her Master of Business Administration from Florida Tech. Sleime’s extensive professional experience in healthcare human resources spans 34 years, with roles at various healthcare institutions across the East Coast. She is a Senior Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resources Management.
Her journey into healthcare was inspired by personal experiences, including her battle with breast cancer, which instilled in her a deep appreciation for the dedication and compassion of healthcare providers.
“My first job landed me covering the administrative side of a psych department for a vacationing colleague. An event occurred that forced us to be on lockdown. I saw how hard the caregivers worked and really thought if I could take care of them, that would be a wonderful job. I am also a breast cancer survivor and my own colleagues cared for me. They made it less scary and filled my experience with kindness and compassion, as well as moving me from patient to survivor. It is honestly so impactful to take care of my team in the only way I can, supporting them with Human Resources needs, because of all they do for our patients,” said Sleime.
As the Assistant VP of Human Resources, Sleime will be responsible for collaborating with staff, leaders, and administration to address human resources needs and develop initiatives that enhance employee satisfaction and organizational success. She was drawn to Iredell Health System because of the warmth and friendliness of employees and is looking forward to making a positive difference in the lives of staff members.
“I hope the staff will trust and depend on me and our Human Resources team. I think we are like the guidance counselors in school, and it is important for us to know the employees and help them grow and become successful in their roles,” said Sleime.
Originally from Powhatan, Virginia, Sleime has lived in various locations, including North Carolina, and most recently residing in Saranac Lake, New York. Sleime’s daughters attend college in North Carolina, and she is excited to be closer to them.
In her free time, Sleime enjoys helping others through community service, going on walks, and traveling. She was an adjunct professor at North Country Community College in New York and hopes to find a similar opportunity in Iredell County.
