Nurses share their hearts, talents to make a difference

in News

It is that time of the year when we recognize the work and dedication of the nursing profession by celebrating Nurses Week, May 6-12. The theme this year is “Nurses Make the Difference,” allowing us the opportunity to celebrate the dedication and sacrifices nurses make every day. Nurses are a main component of America’s health care workforce and through recognition and celebration we can encourage those already serving while inspiring others to join the wonderful profession of nursing.

I have the honor of witnessing the differences that the wonderful nurses at Iredell Health System provide on a daily basis. Over my tenure, I have seen selfless acts of kindness in so many ways as our team truly makes a difference in the lives of the patients they care for. They have given of their time, provided clothing, toys, food and transportation, just to name a few. They don’t do it for recognition, but rather to truly advocate for or meet a patient’s need. Our community should be very proud and honored to have such a compassionate group of nurses providing the compassionate care they do.

One specific nurse making a difference is Sharon Paul, MSN, RNC-MNN, director of The Birth Place and our 3 North unit. Sharon is the recipient of the Piedmont Black Nurses Association Administrative Nurse of the Year Nurse Excellence Award. This celebrated award recognizes Sharon’s outstanding contributions to nursing and health care, as well as her unwavering dedication to promoting equity and excellence in patient care. It also recognizes Sharon’s commitment to nursing excellence, advocacy for underserved communities and her leadership in advancing health equity. Her passion and dedication inspire all of us. Thank you, Sharon, for being that leader that is truly “making the difference” in our profession and the patients you serve.

As we recognize and celebrate Sharon and all nurses everywhere, I want to take a moment to say thank you to all of my colleagues for sharing your heart and talents to meet the many spoken and unspoken needs you see on a daily basis. It is truly an honor to serve alongside every one of you as we make the difference providing safe quality patient care. Happy Nurses Week!
