Public Meeting regarding the planned new county Convenience Center
Iredell County will be holding a Public Meeting regarding the planned new county Convenience Center from 5-7 p.m. on July 11 at the Harmony Community Center, 187 Highland Point Avenue, Harmony, NC 28634. The county recently purchased a 40-acre parcel of land in Harmony for the proposed center that is intended to replace the existing Harmony Convenience Center on West Memorial Highway.
The meeting will be hosted to provide information, answer questions and solicit feedback about the proposed project. County officials and project team members will be on hand to meet with attendees.
The proposed facility will serve as a collection point for residents to drop off their household waste and recyclables and will meet and exceed all sanitary and environmental requirements. Nothing will be buried on site and all waste will be transported to the Iredell County Solid Waste Facility on Twin Oaks Road. The center will be for residential use only and offers numerous benefits to the county and its residents.
Benefits include replacement of the outdated Harmony facility with a state-of-the-art, user-friendly service. The center will be designed for easy transfer of solid waste on a regular basis to the facility on Twin Oaks Road and will have updated controls to prevent issues associated with odors or pests.
A traffic management plan will be specifically designed to prevent vehicle backup on Chief Thomas Road with all access points built in strict compliance with NCDOT requirements. The new location will save time and fuel costs for residents in the northern part of the county who have to travel upwards of 7 miles to the existing center.
