October in the Folsom Historic District

This article originally appeared on The Folsom Telegraph.

October at last….summer is really gone. The nights are cool, the mornings are brisk, and evening seems to fall quickly. Heck, there’s even been snow in the mountains already (but that’s jumping ahead). I was in Walmart yesterday and the piles of Halloween candy were at every hot spot in the store….a true sign that the fall season is upon us, eh?

I walked down to the waterfront just below my shop the other day, to take a break and have a look at the area and how it’s changing with the fall onset. It’s just as beautiful-you can see the color changes that are developing. It felt fall-ish, and crisp. It’s nice when you get that little bite of cold on your cheeks as you walk through the trees. I will be interested to see what the area looks like when the leaves are gone and you can peek through the trees right out to the water. I imagine it will be just as special, in a different, winter kind-of way (oh, but that’s jumping ahead again).

In the Historic District there are a couple of events coming that are true fall fests….nice time for visiting The District, wandering the streets to find out what is new and what you’ve been missing. On October 14th the Antique and Vintage Market is coming. This event has been going on for 51 years! Come down to see how the event has been so successful. Lots of fun things to look/pick through, and an opportunity to start your holiday shopping a little bit early. Come early for the best finds! This event runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also on October 14th, the Johnny Cash Trail will officially open. There is a run and ride that morning…what a great way to spend time in The District. Visit the new trail in the morning (it will only be open until noon on that day) and then come down to the Historic District to have lunch, visit the Historic District, and shop the Antique and Vintage Market with the rest of your afternoon.

On October 28th we have an old event and a new event that we’ve coupled for a great day of family fun. The old event is Halloween trick or treating, which will take place in The District from 1:00-4:00. Look for business that display a picture of a Halloween pumpkin in their window…they are participating merchants, and will have candy for all little trick or treaters. The new part of the event is call FestiFall, and is a family fest with performances in the amphitheater (Annie, Mad Science Show, a costume contest!!!), bounce houses, face painting, and even rock climbing.  From 5:00-6:30 there will be a concert on the amphitheater stage…. A full fall afternoon of fun.

While you are in The District that day, you may notice some activity in the plaza….oh my gosh…it’s time for the Ice Rink to begin it’s set up…soon we’ll be Ice Skating in The District again….oh, but that’s another jump ahead…let’s not do that yet. For now, enjoy fall in The District!
