Spotlight on The Lakes Specialty Center, Athletics and Restaurants Galore on Gold Lake Drive

We're pleased to include The Lakes Specialty Center in our Business Spotlight Series.

We're spotlighting long-time favorites, new arrivals, and hidden gems alike. We encourage you to share these local stories and visit with merchants to get to know them firsthand.

We connected with Lisa Bewley to learn more about The Lakes Specialty Center on Gold Lake Drive.

What is the name of the building/facility and how would you describe the mix of tenants?

The Lakes Specialty Center, would be the full technical name, but our signs just say 'The Lakes'.

Our tenants are upscale and widely mixed, with an emphasis on athletics/sports. I guess I would call it Athletics (Mikes Bikes, Kaia Fit, Body Concepts) and Restaurants (Karen's Bakery Cafe, Heckle Alehouse and Eatery, and Folsom State Slickers), with one vacant restaurant space available.

What's something you wish people knew about the building?

We are here! Everything isn't on Sutter street! We are just one street over, within eyesight of Sutter.

We are closer to the lake, views, and recreation trails.

What is a common question you get from tenants or potential tenants?

The most common question is Can we cut it up? Most of our suites are very large, and the need for small office space in the area is growing; I have a steady stream of potential tenants that need a small office space.

However, we may have that need covered. Details coming soon!

What's the biggest compliment you've received?

We are so happy you are here, you’re the best property manager ever :)

Are you involved with or do you support any local nonprofits, community organizations or causes?

My cause is animal rescue, mainly feline, but I do get some wild critters occasionally.

I raised ten tiny baby opossums, whose mother was killed by a dog, to release size last year. It was an interesting experience. I learned alot and have a new appreciation for them.

All my extra time and money goes to help save animals lives.

There is quite a bit of renovation happening, what's driving that, what should people expect from that and is there anything particularly new or notable about the renovation?

Our East wing is being completely renovated. Suites 150 and 250 were completely gutted and are being modernized (they’re almost done!).

The top floor restaurant (gone now) had a dishwasher line break, which prompted the renovation.

We will be doing many other smaller improvements around the complex this summer. Look for our giant waterfall to be back online and working soon! (I'm waiting for the tadpoles in the water to grow up and turn into frogs, before the pump is engaged).

See, there's the animal side of me again...
