What IS "The Downtown District" anyways?

Have you ever wondered, "just what IS Downtown Manchester?" Perhaps you have seen our logo of the outlined buildings and the tag, "See what makes us special," and wondered...what DOES make you special?

A Community

Downtown Manchester is a community- a community of businesses and property owners working together for the good of the downtown. The District was formed in 1998 in response to changing economic conditions such as the construction of Buckland Hills Mall.  The merchants joined together as a community to support each other and to make Downtown Manchester a destination for consumers.

A Bit of an HOA?

It helps to think of the District as something we are familiar with - an HOA (Home Owners Association).   It is a group of individually owned properties and businesses that are both independent - but also part of a greater community.

The District is funded by a special property tax, paid by property owners within the District, as well as by parking permits purchased by downtown business owners and employees.  These funds are used for operational costs, including staffing, as well as maintenance, beautification, and marketing efforts of the Downtown.

The District boundaries run approximately from Center Street to Hartford Road.
