Celebrate Manchester Week 2022
Celebrate Manchester Week
Saturday, June 4 to Saturday, June 11, 2022Weather updates: 860-474-37792022 marks the 31st anniversary of Celebrate Manchester (formerly Pride In Manchester), a week of FREE activities for all ages. Pride Week starts with the Concert in the Park on Saturday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m., and includes family-friendly events for all ages throughout the week.
A bit of history about Manchester's Pride week: The late Joseph Negri, a former member of the Board of Directors, started Pride In Manchester Week as a one-day event, when residents volunteered their time cleaning up the streets of Manchester. The program grew each year, adding a senior dance, roller-skating party, and a concert. The Pride committee invited community organizations to participate by offering free events to the public. From 1991 to 2015, Heritage Day was held on the final Saturday of Pride week, and it was based on "Homeland Day," a day set aside in 1914 by Cheney Brothers to recognize and celebrate the many ethnic backgrounds of those who came to Manchester to work in the Cheney silk mills. Starting in 2016, we have combined Heritage Day with the Concert in the Park on the first Saturday of June.
The Celebrate Manchester committee is comprised of volunteers from the community who raise funds, organize events, and publicize the programs to provide interesting cultural, social, educational and recreational activities. Some of our members have been serving on the committee since its inception. Pride activities are funded by the Town of Manchester, the SBM Charitable Foundation, and generous donations from local businesses and individuals. See the brochure for a complete list.
