Celebrating Service and Community on MLK Day in Downtown Hillsboro

On this year’s MLK Day, the Hillsboro Downtown Partnership had the honor of hosting an incredible day of service, and our community truly showed up! Over 50 enthusiastic volunteers came together to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy by giving back to the heart of our city—beautiful downtown Hillsboro.

Together, we accomplished so much:
Collected over 36 bags of trash, making our streets cleaner and more inviting.
Weeded and landscaped downtown along the street and the pollinator garden at Bag & Baggage, giving our shared spaces a fresh, welcoming look.
Took down the parklet on 3rd Avenue between Main and Washington Streets to make way for exciting new opportunities in the area.

We were thrilled to have the support of several local leaders who rolled up their sleeves and joined in the effort. A huge thank-you to State Senator Janeen SollmanHillsboro City Council Member Rob Harris, and Hillsboro’s new Mayor, Beach Pace, for working alongside our volunteers and showing their dedication to the community.

Days like this remind us what makes Hillsboro so special—its people. The energy, passion, and commitment from our volunteers brought Dr. King’s message of service to life.

Check out some of the amazing photos from the day and see the difference we made together!
Thank you to everyone who participated. Let’s keep the momentum going as we continue to care for and grow our vibrant downtown.
