Historic Marker Cleaning Day – Join Us in Preserving Central City's History!

Historic markers are cherished across the country, marking significant sites in neighborhoods, parks, and roadsides. With over 190,000 markers in the U.S., many have gone years without care. For the last two years, the Central City Volunteer Team has worked together to clean our local historic markers. Join us this year on April 25th, from 12 PM - 3 PM, in beautifying the neighborhood and preserving our local history!

Meeting Point: Central City Gazebo, 544 14th Street W., Huntington, WV

All are welcome to join! We’ll kick off with a brief discussion about Central City’s rich history before heading out to clean designated markers. Volunteers will also receive a summary of the markers they clean, allowing them to share this local history with others.

About the Event & Its Founder

This annual initiative, created by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, encourages communities to come together in a hands-on effort to preserve history. Held on the last Friday of every April, it’s a fun, family-friendly way to engage with the past while making a lasting impact.
