Auto Accident

Auto Accident

It is that time of year where we begin to experience a change in the weather.  Along with a change in the weather comes a change in the conditions of the roadway.  As with the recent rains and more to come, the roadways become increasingly more slippery.  As the conditions of the roadway change, some people forgot to slow down, vehicles slide more, and sometimes a collision occurs.

In an automobile accident, injuries occur.  Most people realize when they are injured as a result of an automobile accident.  But, injuries come in varying degrees.  Some people may experience the following symptoms after an accident:

  1.     - Neck pain
  2.    -  Low back pain
  3.    -  Shoulder pain
  4.     - Blurred vision
  5.    -  Headaches
  6.    -  Dizziness
  7.     - And many others

Most of the time when someone experiences one or more of the above listed symptoms of an automobile accident, the person will seek out some sort of medical care.  The degree to which a person experiences any of above listed symptoms is as individual as their personality.  It is easy to know when you are hurting and your pain or other symptoms are interfering with your adult daily living activities.  But what about when your symptoms do not appear too severe.

People can experience problems after an accident even when the impact was as little as five miles per hour.  You may have a slight headache or neck pain but you believe these will go away.  Once, I experienced a headache after a very minor accident where my vehicle was rear-ended.  It may not seem like much but I do not experience headaches, at all.  I knew the force of the vehicle hitting my vehicle to the rear, even at that very low speed, caused something to change.  My afternoon schedule changed because I returned to my office where I was able to have the other chiropractor adjust my neck and upper back.  I received chiropractic care over the next two weeks for that accident.

But what about the idea of just waiting to see of your symptoms go away.  Bear in mind, when two vehicles have come together or one into a fixed object there is a great amount of force involved.  Just because your symptoms may go away does not mean the underlying problem has gone away.  After talking with people about their problems it is more common than not to learn there was some sort of a traumatic injury in their past.  Unfortunately, the person did not believed the problem was severe enough at the time to take corrective measures.  I have also learned that most degenerative spinal problems are the result of some traumatic injury from the past.

After every automobile accident, you should have your spine evaluated for any underlying damage.  It is also the best time for the evaluation because most of the time there is a way to have your or the other party’s auto insurance cover the cost.  If you wait too long, you auto insurance may not cover the cost of your care because some other type of accident could have caused your problem.  Also, review your automobile coverage.  Everyone should have a minimum of $5000 in Med (Medical) Pay but $25,000 is better because of the high cost of medical care.  Med Pay is inexpensive and very good to have for you and your family.  Med Pay ensures medical treatment regardless of fault.

Call Savage Chiropractic for an appointment if you are involved in an automobile accident.  Take the time to get your symptoms evaluated and begin the proper care for the injuries you sustained.
