August 2022 Palate Passion: The Upper 9

How's this for a morning or afternoon well spent: a half- or full-round of golf, followed by a delicious meal.

If this multi-pronged experience appeals to you, or a facsimile thereof, look no further than the slices of community heaven known as the Milton-Freewater Golf Course and its neighboring restaurant - the Upper 9.

This has become a recent summer tradition for me on Tuesdays and Thursdays while taking a break from my duties as a paraprofessional in the Milton-Freewater School District. The breakfasts give you much to look forward to after nine or 18 holes on MFGC's par-3 layout.

Most of the Upper 9's selections are aptly named - the Hole-In-One, the Fairway, and one of my personal favorites - the Wedge. The Wedge caters to those with a smaller appetite. Within the confines of a toasted hamburger-type bun you'll find a hard-yoked egg with your choice of sausage, bacon, or a small slab of ham. I don't mind saying there have been occasions where I've employed an all-the-above approach when ordering.

May I also recommend the Fairway - a plate of goodness that includes two eggs of your liking, beautifully seasoned and onion-laden fried potatoes, and your choice of two pancakes or an equal number of French toast slices. Bigger palates will love the Big Dog hamburger, a lunch or dinner item that equals caloric ecstasy. Try this for size: two one-third pound patties, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, mayo and special sauce. This mouth-watering beauty is accompanied by French fries, onion rings, or a side salad.

The staff are a pleasant bunch of individuals and make you feel right at home. They take pride in what they do and this customer appreciates it. Originally posted by Milton-Freewater Chamber Downtown Alliance via Locable
