January Palate Passion: Golden Village

I am often amused when I hear people say, paraphrasing, 'There isn't a good place to eat around here.'

How do they define the word good?

How do they define the phrase 'around here?'

My recent writings for the CDA newsletter, with all do respect, suggest otherwise.

Individuals who spew this verbal gloom and doom must not appreciate the cheesy, lodge-like, bar-friendly, Hispanic, or Chinese offerings of Main Street Milton-Freewater.

The Chinese choice that I reference is the Golden Village.

My recent visit to this charming Chinese establishment was worthy of a gold medal. The Golden Village offers its customers multiple specials that are reasonably priced.

Now that's special.

The dinner decision was not an easy one to make. The first of the quartet of specials to greet me as I entered the restaurant's front door was sweet and sour chicken, pork chow mein, and pork fried rice.

Special three featured cashew nut chicken, pork fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and a pork egg roll.

The last of the feast-worthy foursome had vegetable lo mein leading off, pork fried rice on deck, and an entree of your choice to close - fried shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, barbecued pork, pineapple chicken, or almond chic.

Yours truly had little or no difficulty downing the second special listed that included pineapple chicken, broccoli chicken, and pork fried rice. Every bite was both mouth-warming and mouth-watering.

Chicken is good enough to begin with. But when it is the pineapple or broccoli kind, it makes it that much better. The broccoli was the firmest and crunchiest that I have had the pleasure to chew, and the pork fried rice was quite pleasing.

Egg-flour soup was served prior to the main plate - an anticipation enhancer for what was to follow.

The Golden Village is a splendid place to dine by yourself, with a significant other, or with family members. I have no doubt you, and others in your inner circle, will walk away well-nourished after time and money well spent.
