Dragon’s Gate Brewery- "We wanted an atmosphere where people can feel at home, take their shoes off, and walk through the grass.”

Having grown up immersed in the fantastical world of King Arthur, Jennifer Gregory was always destined for medieval greatness. Starting when she was a young 21-year-old woman in California, Jennifer worked at all levels of the industry from bartending to sales managing to distribution. When she and her husband, Adam, were living back in California they always knew that they wanted to open a Brewery, and not just some run-of-the-mill type of gig. “We wrote all of our ideas down in a little book starting in 2002- what we wanted, what our vision was, that it would be something to fit a renaissance medieval theme. And we knew we wanted to move back [to Milton-Freewater],” where Jennifer was born and raised.
After many trips to Belgium meeting other Brewers, they also knew that they wanted to make Belgian style beers! “Belgian beer is all about the yeast; it changes the whole flavor profile of a beer by tweaking the temperature of the yeast which coaxes out different flavors of the beer. [Yeast] is the superstar of the beer and Belgian beers have a wide spectrum of flavor profiles.”
So, Jennifer and Adam bought their current property in 2008 with the vision of creating a place “for the community to go and hang out, relax, and have a good time. We wanted an atmosphere where people can feel at home, take their shoes off, and walk through the grass.” With that in mind, Jennifer and Adam launched Dragon’s Gate Brewery in 2011 with four signature beers that they still carry on-tap to this day: Belgian Golden Strong Ale, Belgian Wit, Belgian IPA, and Saison.
Today, Dragon’s Gate Brewery has 35 different craft beers that utilize 9 different styles of yeast! With their creative palates carefully refined, Jennifer and Adam bring a mix of the old-style craft brewing married with unique flavors like hibiscus and cocoa. “Adam is more of a traditionalist. His favorite flavors are the Belgian IPA and the Saison. During my last trip to Belgium, I had this wonderful cherry beer and I wanted to recreate it. I like to take things and put my own individual spin on it. And then we came out with Rains of Castamere” about a year and a half later. Be sure to try the Arkenstone too, another one of Jennifer’s current favorites.
Dragon’s Gate Brewery is not only home to numerous delicious and unique Belgian beers, it’s also a place where cult favorite special events take place: the Renaissance Faire, the Harry Potter Celebration, Headless Red Wine, and the host of most Mac-Hi Class Reunions and celebrations of life. These events are always widely loved and very well done, and something that adds a special zing to our community!
Before the Pandemic, Jennifer and Adam bought 4 acres of property nearby Clay in Motion, where they are planning to put an event center and Pub House tasting room. They’d like to host both private and themed events there and be yet another place that the community and visitors can relax and feel at home. Jennifer and Adam have truly added an eccentric and beautifully-maintained small business that is a huge source of community pride and fun things to do!
Cheers to one of our tasty community crown jewels, Dragon’s Gate Brewery, and its darling business owners Jennifer and Adam Gregory!!!
