Saturday Market Newsletter November 2024
Cool Season Market Options
Growing Season is Not Over
Just because the weather has gotten cooler, don't think our farmers are not still growing produce and raising beef, pork, and poultry. Growing food is a year-round occupation even though the produce is not the summer varieties we have come to love.
This is the season for beets, turnips, lettuces, spinach, kale, and other varieties that love cooler weather. Many of our local farmers use greenhouses and hoop houses to prolong their growing season. Check out options for buying directly from farmers on their farms or from local "winter markets." In Murfreesboro, we have an excellent variety of winter produce available at the small, winter market outside The Hamery on Lytle Street just off the downtown square. Vendors bundle up and line up on Saturday mornings from 8-11 to sell fresh produce, meats, and baked goods, and customers come in quickly to make their selections. It's not the leisurely pace of our Saturday Market, but it's still getting locally grown food into kitchens in Middle Tennessee.
You can also order directly from many of our Saturday Market vendors. We will continue to post these options on Facebook and in our monthly newsletter throughout the winter months to help connect you with local growers, makers, and producers. We want everyone to continue supporting our goal of buying local, buying fresh, and supporting local farmers.
In addition to the Saturday Market, read about all the holiday-related events Main Street sponsors in downtown Murfreesboro to support local businesses and promote a sense of community.

Just in time for the holidays, HPA Farm has pasture raised turkeys. They are available for $6.50 a pound, with a $20 deposit to reserve your turkey. Jonathan said he should have a few weighing 20 plus pounds, and the rest should be 8-15 pounds. You can't get any fresher than straight from the farm. You can text HPA at 615-631-5666 to reserve yours! Stop by HPA's tent this Saturday to talk with Jonathan about his turkeys and other meat from the farm. He is at the Winter Market on Lytle Street every Saturday from 8-11.
