Saturday Market Newsletter June 1

See what the Saturday Market offers!

"Make us your downtown destination for fresh, local, and wonderful."

The Murfreesboro Saturday Market circles the courthouse every Saturday from 8-Noon, and this week we have a full lineup of vendors. Plan now to join us this weekend and start your summer off with fresh produce, flowers, locally raised meats, fresh-baked goods, and family fun. Enjoy fiddle music on Saturday by Sophie Buck. Our market supports local growers, makers, and producers. The market is open every Saturday from 8-noon through October 26 (rain or shine).

Shop with these vendors at the June 1 Saturday Market.

Returning Vendors June 1

We have four regular vendors returning for the first time in the 2024 season: Southern Ridge Farm (locally grown beef and pork), Double A Farms (locally grown beef and pork), T & J Farms (local produce), and Over The Rainbow Farm (fresh flower bouquets and local produce.  Join us on the square from 8-Noon. We are open rain or shine.

Vendor Highlights-Meet these Market Vendors

If you haven't met these vendors, then make a point of saying hello this week. It's fun to shop at a Farmer's Market where you can talk to the people who grow your food and make their products. Ask if they have social media accounts and follow them for updates. This week, meet (L-R) Dr. Song Cui director of the MTSU Small Farm (organically certified, fresh-picked seasonal produce) @MTSU Small Farm on Facebook, Jim Anderson at Bucksnort Trout Ranch (locally raised trout, smoked trout, and trout dip), Tricia at Barefoot Acres Herbs (fresh herbal salves, lotions and more) @Barefoot Acres Herbs on Facebook, and Harmony Lane Farm & Creamery (fresh goat cheeses, fudge, goat milk lotions and soaps). These four vendors are full-time and will be at the market every week. Each week in our newsletter, we will highlight a few market vendors until we have featured all of them. You can find these vendors and other vendor locations on the weekly market map.

PickTn Products Highlights Possum Bottom Farms

We are delighted to share this posting from PickTN Products about one of our full-time vendors: Possum Bottom Farms

"Possum Bottom Farms is renowned for its gourmet mushrooms, grown organically year-round in controlled climates. They offer a variety including blue, golden, and King oyster mushrooms, shiitake, lions mane, and chestnut mushrooms. During peak season, they harvest 500-600 lbs per week, showcasing their produce at the Franklin Farmers Market and Murfreesboro Saturday Market on the Square.

Notable is their blue oyster mushrooms, a fine dining favorite for their meaty texture and versatile flavor. Chestnut mushrooms boast a nutty taste, ideal for pairing with various meats and veggies, while lions mane offers a unique crab/lobster-like flavor and promising health benefits. Golden oyster mushrooms have a citrusy note, perfect for salads or alongside poultry and fish. Black Pearl King oyster mushrooms are meaty with a scallop-like taste, excellent for grilling or as faux scallops. Shiitake, a culinary staple rich in nutrients, tops it off with its popularity and medicinal properties."

Thanks to Pick TN Products for highlighting one of our popular vendors.

A Note From: McIntosh Field & Flower

McIntosh Field & Flower is a long-awaited dream realized by two sisters, Erin & Tara McIntosh in 2020. While cut flowers are the main commercial focus, the farm is also home to a motley crew of animals including pigs, goats, chickens, and honey bees.

Their small family farm in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is nestled on six acres where they focus on growing the highest quality and most unique fresh-cut flowers for the local market. Grown without harsh chemicals or pesticides, they focus on growing what's in season - from Winter Tulips to Fall Dahlias and everything in between.

They pride themselves on high-quality, long-lasting and unique blooms. Grown, not flown! From selecting the best, most exciting varieties, to diligently harvesting every stem, they sell their flowers and flower products every week at the Saturday Market. Ask them about their seasonal flower subscriptions.
