Music City Swing 20 piece band brings the "Big Band" music to downtown Murfreesboro for a free concert.

Friday Night Live celebrates 19 years with free concerts downtown.

Friday Night Live has been happening in the Murfreesboro Downtown for 19 years. These summer concerts are organized by the nonprofit organization Main Street Murfreesboro and sponsored by various local businesses, with the presenting sponsor being Wilson Bank and Trust.

The summer series is one outdoor, free concert each month June-September. The concerts are 6:30-9:30pm and feature a local cover band performing on stage in front of the Rutherford County Historic Courthouse. The public square is closed for the evening's concert and people bring chairs to sit in the streets and listen to the music. Local restaurants are open around the square and there are food trucks located around the courthouse.  Free parking is available downtown on the streets and in the City Parking Garage one block from the public square off Church Street and Vine Street.

The 2024 season line up is:

June 7 - Music City Swing (big band)

July 5 - The O'Donnell's (country)

August 2 - The Nashville Alternators (80-90s)

September 20 - Bizz and Everyday People (R&B)

Music City Swing will perform June 7 and provide three hours of the ultimate 'big band' dance music for attendees.

Swing dance is known as a 'group of social dances that developed with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s-1940s, with the origins of each dance predating the popular 'swing era.'"  This type of music was performed during WW2 and popular for couples who learned the Charleston, Lindy Hop, and Collegiate Shag.

The National Dance Club will be at Friday Night Live starting at 6:00pm to give free dance lessons for anyone interested in learning a few steps with their partner in preparation to getting on the dance floor!  Make sure to wear comfortable shoes whether you come with a dance partner or not you will find someone who wants to dance a jig with you!

Thank you to our many sponsors making these free outdoor concerts possible each year!
