There are many places in Rutherford County to get a good haircut but there’s only one place that also gives patrons a game of pool. Pastime Barber Shop and pool hall has been lowering ears for more than 122 years. They have been a part of the square since 1904.

β€œI’ve been coming here all my life, since I was 16,” says Jimmy Lester. In an interview with Sam Stockard in 2014, when they were celebrating 110 years of business.  β€œIf you’re going to come down here to shoot pool, you might as well own it.”

Lester remembers when Norris Lovvorn owned the building in the 1940s and ’50s and the time when it was separated into three pool halls during the days of segregation when Don Matthews owned it.
