Participating artists:
WV Photographic Artist, Clayton Spangler, follows his muse of color, shadow, and light to see a different world around him than most. He plays with these elements to create beautiful, captivating interpretations of intimate landscapes- energetic lines of movement, blooming harmonious color converging into organic shapes.
His images have been featured in Wonderful West Virginia, Paddler, Southern Living, and Out Here magazines; advertising and marketing projects nationwide; and in the Professional Photographers of America’s traveling loan collection. He is the owner of Photographic Design, a commercial photography business located in Charleston, West Virginia.
Kathryn Thompson is a native West Virginian, whose artwork focuses on the intersections of fantasy and reality, the supernatural and nature. She primarily works with oils and gouache, but ventures into other mediums as well. Recently, she’s been exploring ways to turn unusual items into painting surfaces. She hopes her pieces bring viewers a sense of the wonder and delight she has found in fantasy worlds and fairy tales. A lifelong “West-Ender”, she is excited to be part of bringing the arts to the Central City area.
Lesa Smith is a West Virginia artist who primarily works in abstract mixed media and has always felt compelled to create. Her paintings are one-of-a-kind in that they are inspired by scripture and song, and often carry a spiritual message. She also incorporates elements from nature for texture and pigmented colors for layering into her paintings, which she finds in rocks, bark, clay, and other items she cultivates near West Virginia rivers and mountains. She is constantly amazed by the unusual and stunning colors that nature delivers for her paintings.
Leslie M. Alexander has been a West Virginia resident since 1975, and currently lives in Huntington with her husband Rusty. She studied graphic design at Marshall University. Leslie has two wonderful grown children, and three grandchildren. Leslie said, “I love the elusive transience of light, and I try to capture that elusiveness in my art.”
Her love for subject matter varies greatly – from nature, flowers, and animals to cityscapes and night scenes. She indulges in fantasy art and space art for the pure joy of it!
