Art Activation Summer Review & Looking Ahead!

Spring & Summer Recap!

This Spring and Summer were active with so many interesting and creative Pop-Up Makers Fairs from April through August, with one more scheduled for Saturday, October 19th.

The Earth & Culture Day event kicked things off on April 20th by highlighting 25 local visual artists, small businesses, organizations, hands-on activities, food, and live music. With an emphasis on presenting how a sustainable local economy could thrive, we showcased various ways to reuse, recycle, repurpose, shop locally, support artists, and honor the earth.  A short film by OMG Productions of the event is featured below!

Each month throughout the season artists and visitors gather to enjoy the outdoor Maker’s Fairs, with live music by local musicians, local food vendors and celebrate the arts, community, and the summer.

May’s Fair was delightful with a full day celebrating the arrival of summer with 15 art vendors and live music by Jason Jobe and Keyamo Onoge.

July featured a beautiful night market, while August was our annual 1970’s themed “Far Out Fest”!  This one is a crowd favorite featuring all things vintage! Live music, a Groovy Photo Booth, Far Out Fashion Show, Vintage Raffle drawings, and themed food like 9th Street Diner’s Jerry Garcia burgers, and cheese fondue ….  This was our 3rd year, and plans are already underway for 2025.
August also included a creative interactive multi-media event.  “Letters” was a moving outdoor evening experience by artists Caleb Flood and Tacie Jones.  Participants brought decomposable paper of special meaning (love letters, bills, cards, for example) to tear them up with intention and add to compost dirt. The compost was then used to plant a Queen of the Night for each person to take home.  All the while, projected images of earth, people enjoying activities, and more added to the atmosphere along with handmade flute playing and sounds by Caleb. You just had to be there!

Overall, these events enabled approximately 45 visual artists and 20 musicians to showcase their talents, network, gain new customers, fans, and enjoy the season.  We’d like to thank each one for their creative participation in our Art Activation Projects and for being a vital part of this growing community.

What's Next?

In addition to the outdoor Pop-Up Makers Fairs, Gallery 610 showcased both solo and group exhibitions. Solo artists include Sydney Stewart, Jesse Thornton, Joe Cox and Larry Sumpter.  Our themed group exhibits include Earthlings, Age of Aquarius and the two upcoming Autumn Winds and Winter Solstice will round out the year.

Looking ahead at 2025, we anticipate hosting 5 or 6 outdoor Makers Fair events in addition to the Central City events we participate in, and showcasing artists in Gallery 610 located inside Village Antiques & Art.
