Evening at James Farm: Committee of 100 Event on September 9th - Altus Oklahoma
The Committee of 100's "Evening in the Country" event on September 9th at James Farm in Blair, Oklahoma was a spectacular celebration of community, culture, and camaraderie. Nestled in the countryside just outside of Altus, this event brought together local leaders, business professionals, and residents for a night filled with entertainment, laughter, and connection.
A Night of Rich Contributions and Exciting Activities
The evening kicked off with a beautiful and meaningful presentation of the Colors by the Kiowa Tribe, who honored the American flag in a ceremony that set the tone for the event. Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, their presence added cultural depth, reminding everyone of the heritage and history that enrich our community. We extend a special thanks to the Kiowa Tribe for their participation and for enhancing the evening with this touching tribute.
Adding to the festivities were the appearances of Miss GPSRA, the Queen, and the Princess, whose presence delighted guests and added an extra touch of elegance to the event. It was wonderful to see these young representatives of the community participating and engaging with attendees throughout the evening.
The entertainment continued with a fantastic live performance by Justin David, who serenaded the crowd with his soulful guitar playing and heartfelt songs. His music added a laid-back yet lively ambiance to the event, creating the perfect soundtrack for an evening of celebration and connection.
Fun and Games: A True Western Experience
The Navarree family also took center stage with their incredible rope show, thrilling the audience with their whip-cracking skills. The loud, sharp snap of the whips echoed across the farm as they demonstrated precise control and mastery of the ropes, leaving the crowd in awe. Newcomers, in particular, were captivated by this display of Western tradition, making it one of the standout moments of the night.
No country gathering would be complete without some hands-on fun, and the event delivered with a dummy cattle roping station, where guests could try their hand at roping. This interactive activity was a hit with attendees of all ages, providing a fun way to engage with the local cowboy culture.
The excitement didn’t stop there—one of the most anticipated and fun-filled competitions of the night was the watermelon seed-spitting contest. Laughter filled the air as participants tested their skills (and lung power) in this classic summer game. It was a lighthearted and fun activity that brought out everyone’s competitive spirit and added a playful element to the evening.
Community Spirit and Volunteer Support
The success of the event was made possible by the tireless efforts of the Committee of 100 members, who volunteered throughout the evening to ensure everything ran smoothly. From setting up to assisting guests, their dedication was evident at every turn, reflecting the true spirit of community collaboration.
We also owe a huge thanks to the Western Oklahoma State College (WOSC) Ambassadors for their enthusiastic participation. With their joyful energy and willingness to help wherever needed, they played a key role in ensuring the event’s success. Seven Ambassadors generously volunteered, with two of them providing face painting for the kids. A special shoutout goes to Madi Barger, who supplied all of the face painting materials, ensuring the children had a fun, creative activity to enjoy.
Words of Inspiration and Community Connection
The event was further enriched by Representative Gerrid Kendrix, who delivered a powerful speech that inspired the crowd. He spoke passionately about the importance of community engagement and the significant role that local businesses play in Altus’s future growth. His message resonated with attendees, reminding everyone of the strength and potential we have when we come together as a community.
