A Day of Literary Delights: Recap of the Indie Bookstore Event

Authors reading and book signing

Last Saturday (April 27) in the Columbus Creative District within the Trackside District -- downtown Columbus, book lovers from all around gathered at our local bookstore Terrace Books for an enchanting Indie Bookstore event.

The air was buzzing with excitement as patrons had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the magical world of literature, mingle with fellow enthusiasts, and have a chance to meet and listen to two incredibly talented children’s book authors. (And one of my personal favorite – eat some yummy cookies supplied by Cookies and Crumpets.)

Chance to meet local authors

The opportunity to meet the two talented children's book authors – Laura Overby and Dillon Krueger -- did not go unnoticed as people ventured out to the back patio. As they shared their stories and insights, listeners were captivated by their creativity and imagination. It was a fantastic chance for both young readers and adults to connect with the magic of storytelling.

But the excitement didn't stop there. Attendees also had the chance to hunt for the elusive Golden ticket, hidden within the stacks of books. The lucky winner would walk away with a treasure trove of 12 free audiobook credits from Libro.fm, the bookstore's audio book partner. Being one of the few chosen Indie bookstores to participate in this giveaway made the event even more special.

Blind Date with a Book

For those feeling adventurous, there was the option to embark on a Blind Date with a Book. I, for one, couldn't resist the thrill of discovering new authors and genres outside of my comfort zone. With three carefully selected books in hand, I'm eagerly anticipating the journey each one will take me on.

What's more, every “Blind Date” purchase made during the event contributed to a worthy cause—the Center for Survivors. Knowing my literary indulgence was making a difference added an extra layer of satisfaction to the experience.

Arriving an hour after opening, I was amazed to find the shelves already buzzing with activity. It seemed I was not the only one eager to explore the bookstore's offerings. Note to self: Arrive early next time to witness the full spectrum of selections.

Bookstore Road Map

As if the day couldn't get any better, each purchase came with a charming canvas tote, a perfect companion for carrying my newfound literary treasures. Tucked away inside each tote was a delightful surprise—a copy of the new Midwest Indie Bookstore Road Map.

Taking a moment to peruse the map, I discovered an exciting opportunity for book lovers. By snapping a photo inside or in front of any bookstore featured on the map and posting it on social media with the hashtag #BookstoreRoadMap, participants could enter to win a $50 gift card each month. And the grand prize? A $500 gift card awarded at next year's Indie Bookstore Day. It's the perfect incentive to embark on a literary road trip and explore the diverse array of independent bookstores in the region.

In retrospect, the Indie Bookstore event was a day filled with literary delights, community spirit, and endless possibilities. I'm already looking forward to next year's celebration and the adventures that await between the pages of a book.

Until then, happy reading!
