Sculpture/Mural Walk comes to the Trackside District - Downtown Columbus

Unveiling of Sculpture Walk

We're excited to introduce the Columbus Sculpture/Mural Walk, a brand-new addition to the Trackside District in Downtown Columbus! Thanks to the generous support of the City of Columbus and the Trax (Columbus' Creative District), the Columbus Arts Council (CAC)  has established a dynamic and ever-changing visual arts experience that's open to everyone.

CAC collaborates with SWAN for sculptures

In collaboration with Sculpture Walk Across Nebraska (SWAN), the CAC is proud to present a diverse array of sculptures to the community, with pieces that will be rotated and refreshed annually. SWAN plays a crucial role in housing, constructing, and sustaining our Sculpture Walk, ensuring its ongoing success. Not only does this program infuse our city's public spaces with artistic flair, but it also provides valuable opportunities and exposure for artists at the local, regional, and national levels.

All sculptures displayed are rented by the community they are housed in and are available for purchase to provide artists with continuous revenue. If a participating sculpture sells, the local program gains a commission from the sale to help cover costs of upcoming years.

Sculptures, Artists and Sponsors

This year, Columbus unveils six stunning sculptures throughout the district. As our Sculpture Walk takes its first steps, we're thrilled to announce it will expand by two sculptures annually, enriching the entirety of the Trackside District and keeping the excitement alive.

Among this year's featured artists are Joe and Terry Malesky, Mike Fluent, Kirk Seese, and Carl Weiss, whose works reflect themes of nature, geometry, and wildlife, adding depth and intrigue to our debut year.

None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our community partners, who share our vision and dedication to this project. This year’s Sculpture Walk is made possible thanks to the support of the Columbus Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Trackside District Downtown Columbus, Centro Hispano, Central Community College, Kay’s Place and Massage Therapy, Platte County Pheasants Forever, and a donation in the memory of Pam Kluck. Special thanks also to Gehring Ready-Mix & Construction for their generous donation of the sculpture bases.

Murals in the Trackside District

In partnership with the Columbus Arts Council, the Trax - Columbus' Creative District is integrating 12 murals located in the Trackside District to the Columbus Sculpture/Mural Walk, offering visitors a comprehensive visual arts experience.

Audio Tour and Brochures Coming Soon

Art enthusiasts can delve deeper into the stories behind the sculptures and murals by taking advantage of our guided audio tour via the Otocast app. This interactive experience connects you directly with the artists, providing valuable insights into their creative processes and the historical significance of each piece.

As you embark on this artistic journey, be sure to pick up one of our official Columbus Sculpture and Mural Walk brochures. These handy guides include a map and additional information about the project, ensuring you make the most of your exploration.

These brochures will be located in the stand in the southwest corner of Frankfort Square.

"Our goal is to build this program into a full experience in our community," says CAC Executive Director Elley Coffin. "The arts accentuate a community’s beautification, culture, revitalization, welcoming, and atmosphere. It creates a destination. The arts should be everywhere and we are so glad it’s here!"
