Preserving Comstock History and Culture for Over a Decade

Donovan Mill Battery of Stamps

Working Hard to Protect Comstock History and Culture

Since 2013, we've been dedicated to preserving the rich history and vibrant culture of the Comstock. Our efforts have led to the restoration of key landmarks like the Upper Yellow Jacket Hoist and the Gold Hill Depot, transforming these sites into beacons of heritage. Through significant investments in projects like the St. Mary’s Art Center and Donovan Mill, we've ensured that these historical treasures are safeguarded for future generations. Our work extends across the Comstock, supporting various organizations and community projects that align with our mission.

Common Misconceptions About Preservation

Myth: Preservation is just about keeping old buildings standing, often at the expense of progress.

Reality: Preservation is about more than just maintaining structures; it's about protecting the cultural heritage, stories, and identity that these places embody. It’s not a barrier to progress but rather a way to enhance it by integrating history with modern development.

Why we preserve

Preservation enriches communities by fostering a sense of place and continuity. It supports local economies through tourism and revitalizes neighborhoods by making them unique and attractive. Preservation is an investment in our shared future, ensuring that the history, culture, and stories of a place are not lost but continue to inspire and educate future generations.

Why support matters

People support preservation through volunteering or donating because they recognize the value of protecting cultural heritage and historical landmarks. They want to ensure that future generations can experience and learn from the past. Preservation also fosters a sense of community pride and identity, as well as contributing to local economic development through tourism and revitalization efforts. Supporting preservation allows individuals to actively participate in safeguarding their community's history, making a tangible difference in maintaining the character and legacy of their surroundings.
